You know the feeling when you are at the store and find THE PERFECT shirt. You know, the one that fits JUST right! You don't even wait for tomorrow to wear it, you get home and throw it on.
Fast forward an hour and it's time to get dinner going.
You throw the hamburgers on the grill and in less than 10 minutes you happen to glance down and notice little grease dots covering the front of the now NOT-SO-PERFECT shirt.
UGH.....
Now, you're wishing you would have thrown on the apron first. But not just ANY apron...THE PERFECT APRON. (Which I have to add, is just as great as the perfect shirt, if not better!)
"Perfect Apron?" you ask?!
Yes, there is a difference between a good apron and an AMAZING apron. Which one do you have?
Let's find out if you are using the right apron. Because, it really does matter!
1. Do you love the way it looks?
Back in my younger days throw a thousand bananas all over an apron and some silly saying and I was all over that apron! Now, I prefer something a little more classic. Something that is going to add a pop of beautiful color in my kitchen and compliment the decor.
When you're looking for your next apron, make sure it speaks to you and your decorating style. You'd be surprised what a beautiful and functional accent an apron can add to the overall look of your kitchen.
2. Is it well made?
I was at the store the other day checking out aprons...you know, my competition. Some were frilly, some had stripes and others were solid colored with a sweet saying, but you know the one thing they all had in common? They were so tiny and so thin, I wondered what the point of it was.
Now I don't know about you, but I am so tired of walking into stores and seeing such low quality kitchen linens. I mean, these things have a messy job to do!
You're apron should not just be made to cover, but it should also be someone absorbent for all those drips and splashes that an apron is meant to protect your clothing against....after all, that is why we are wearing the apron in the first place! So, be sure you keep that in mind the next time you are tempted to buy that oh so frilly and ruffled apron that you can practically see through!
3. Is it comfortable?
Think about it... For the most part, the kitchen isn't always the FIRST place we want to be spending our time, but it is necessary and important and we find ourselves in there at least twice a day throwing food together. Shouldn't you be comfortable?
How comfortable is your apron? Is there a little stretch to the material - will it move with you? Is it so comfortable that you forget that you are even wearing it? That happened to me the other day. I was walking into the grocery store and my daughter looked over and asked me what the deal was with the apron...I had completely forgot it was on. That's how comfortable you're apron should be!
4. How well does it wash?
Where else do you find yourself up to your ears in a mess but the kitchen! Make sure that your apron is built for repeated washes with a high quality material that will look like new wash after wash.
5. How does it make you feel when you put it on?
I know I left this one for last, but it is probably THE MOST IMPORTANT thing to consider. When you pull that apron over your head and get it all tied up you should feel like you just put on your cape...your armor! (Sometimes the dinner table can feel like a war zone, just saying!)
I know for me, putting my apron, well, it mentally flips a switch. The pile of dishes doesn't seem so overwhelming. Getting dinner on the table in 10 minutes before everyone has to be out the door again seems completely possible.
